GIFT OF HEALTHY HAIR: HAIR DONATION CAMPAIGN FOR CANCER PATIENTS

SM Valenzuela in partnership with Cuts Against Cancer and Human Nature, organized a mass campaign to collect record-breaking amount of hair for the benefit of children and women battling cancer.
Dubbed as #GiftOfHealthyHair Campaign, the drive aims to promote cancer awareness, and ways people can help out.

We wanted to help cancer patients to feel normal and beautiful” said SM Valenzuela Assistant Mall Manager Emmanuel S. Gatmaitan. “By way of conducting this event, we hope to collect many hairs as possible to be sewn and weaved into natural wigs” added by Mr. Gatmaitan.

The hair collected for donation to charity within 6 hour-drive will be made into wigs and will be donated freely to cancer patients. First 50 walk-in hair donors will get free HOT OIL gift certificates from David Salon and other freebies from participating sponsors. Likewise, free hair cut will be given to all hair donors.

Apart from helping cancer patients and providing them wigs, SM Valenzuela also hopes to beat the Guinness World Record for “Most Hair Donated to Charity in One Day”. As remembered, 881 people donated their hair at the Mississippi Institute for Aesthetics, Nail and Cosmetology in Clinton, Mississippi, USA, last 21st of May 2007. At least 48.75 kg or 107.4 lbs of hair was collected in support of the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Campaign.

Israel, on the other hand, broke the Guinness world record in November 2013 with 117 lbs or 53.1 kg of donated hair. More than 250 women participated in the haircutting event hosted by Zichron Menachem- the Israeli Association for the Support of Children with Cancer and their Families, together with Pantene Products Israel.

#GiftOfHealthyHair Campaign in SM Valenzuela will be on Thursday, October 23 at 2pm to 8 pm. The event is proudly supported by Papemelroti, When In Manila, Perfect Rhythm Multimedia Productions, David’s Salon and Jollibee.

ECO FAIR MARKS EARTH DAY CELEBRATION AT SM

22 APRIL- To mark the 43rd anniversary of the annual day of action for the environment, SM City Marilao has chosen to highlight the celebration with an “ECO FAIR” that showcased innovative and sustainable designs as well as environment friendly products from robots made of recycled materials, green fashion to eco-friendly vehicles.

Ginoo at Binibining Guiguinto Michael Sicat and Genesis Baul shared honors with DepEd Supervisor for Special Events Division Head Catalino Inovero, SM Marilao Leasing Manager Anna Jabol, Marilao Councilor Irma Celones and Secretary General for Environmental Development Educational Network Medel Pulanco at the official ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the opening of Eco Fair at SM City Marilao.

Drawing 10 exhibitors from Bulacan and nearby cities, the fair casted a spotlight on the shining examples of environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.

Scrap Wear designers Ralph Santos, Marshey, Erik Fashionista, Maika Garcia, Sharmaine Verdadero, Reniel, Paulo Toralba and Benidict Bolante turned trash into sustainable fashion and presented recycled couture made of junk and used materials. Coconut husks, dried leaves and newspapers as well as garbage bags were repurposed into cocktail dresses and accessories while ice-cream sticks and tin cans were weaved into men’s clothing.
The indoor landscape by Santiago’s garden of Guiguinto,Bulacan brought shoppers to contemplative reflection on the importance of saving the environment. Alongside, exhibit from I-crops International highlighted the eco-friendly vehicles run by electricity. These e-vehicles provide 55% to 99% improvement in CO2 emissions and produce less harmful impacts to the environment while contributing to the recycling-based societies.

The message ‘Earth Day Every day, Everywhere, for Everyone’ was also delivered loud and clear through the art creation of Mr. Jojo Cruz, who made miniature robots out of recycled materials. Cruz’s artwork introduced and promoted the concept of the 3Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle). It also encouraged onlookers to learn innovative ways to live a green, safe and healthy lifestyle.
Over 200 people came to see the opening of the exhibit. Gracing the event were Secretary General for Environmental Development Educational Network Medel Pulanco, Marilao Councilor Irma Celones, DepEd Supervisor for Special Events Division Head Catalino Inovero as well as Ginoo and Binibining Guiguinto, Mr. Michael Sicat and Ms. Genesis Baul.

Earth Day celebration is an activity of SM Supermalls held every year to highlight green issues with activities that demonstrate support for the environment protection. Likewise, it also promotes comprehensive approaches to limit ecological footprint. These include the monthly trash to cash, recycling market and SM eco bag campaign among others.
