Print on print

Prints are all over the runways of the fashion capitals of the world, as top designers draw inspiration from flowers, stripes, kaleidoscopes, and many other things.
Girls will have a lot of fashion fun mixing and matching all the pretty printed dresses, tops, and bottoms with their basic wardrobe.  Here are some on-trend tips for wearing prints:

  • Don’t discard your floral fantasies just yet, as the season brings a high- octane dose of flower power. The runways have bloomed with outfits inspired by the beauty of flowers – think Blumarine, Proenza Schouler, Alberta Ferretti.
  • Walk on the Wild Side.  Animal prints are hotter than ever and ethnic tribal prints will bring an exotic touch to any wardrobe.
  • Don’t Forget Your Geometry Lessons.  Whether you loved or hated them in school, you’ll be fascinated on how geometric prints have invaded the fashion scene.  Etro, Bottega Veneta, and Michael Van Der Ham, among others, show their stripes – elegant in vertical, horizontal, or even diagonal configurations. You’ll also find a polka dots, zigzags, triangles, and checks in this trendy take on the subject.
  • Combine prints for an exciting fashion mix – flowers go well with checks, leopard with geometrical prints, and kaleidoscopic prints with hearts. The possibilities are endless.

Think outside the cubicle

The Clout of Color. A bright-colored coat is worn over a paisley woven top and white pants.

Shirt Strategies. The classic white shirt paired with a day-to-night printed pencil skirt.

Creative Partnership. A printed top and red slim pants.

Monochromatic Merger. Safari-inspired pants suit.

Paradigm Sheath. Belted sleeveless sheath dress.

Black & White Affair. Belted fit-and-flare printed top and sleek black pants.

The New Look of Power. Brocade-inspired skirt suit.

Blazer Trail. Printed mini-dress under an oversized blazer.
What to wear to work? In the 80s, when women were starting to make inroads into the corporate world, this would mean power dressing. Stiff suits with padded shoulders defined the 9 to 5 way of life.

But in a world where the corporate hotshots like Mark Zuckerberg rule wearing hoodies; where offices could be virtual or anywhere else; and where 24/7 has replaced 9 to 5, dressing for work is more relaxed.

After all, mergers and partnerships are sealed over business lunch. New accounts are acquired during cocktail hours. And the boom of new career choices and a constantly changing work environment makes way for creative work clothes from SM Ladies Fashion.

Get down to business with modern suits, blazers, slim pants, and pencil skirts – all tailored to perfection. While black, neutrals, and white shirts will always be classic corporate staples, deal making brights and power prints bring a fresh look to boardroom dressing.

With women now more confident of their place in the professional scheme of things, they are not afraid to celebrate their femininity in flattering dresses with trendy touches and textures.

The Work Wear Essentials are available at the SM Ladies' Fashion of all SM Store.
