22 APRIL- To mark the 43rd anniversary of the
annual day of action for the environment, SM City Marilao has chosen to
highlight the celebration with an “ECO
FAIR” that showcased innovative and sustainable designs as well as environment
friendly products from robots made of recycled materials, green fashion to eco-friendly
vehicles.

Drawing
10 exhibitors from Bulacan and nearby cities, the fair casted a spotlight on
the shining examples of environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.
Scrap
Wear designers Ralph Santos, Marshey, Erik Fashionista, Maika Garcia, Sharmaine
Verdadero, Reniel, Paulo Toralba and Benidict Bolante turned trash into sustainable
fashion and presented recycled couture made of junk and used materials. Coconut
husks, dried leaves and newspapers as well as garbage bags were repurposed into
cocktail dresses and accessories while ice-cream sticks and tin cans were
weaved into men’s clothing.
The indoor landscape by Santiago’s
garden of Guiguinto,Bulacan brought shoppers to contemplative reflection on the
importance of saving the environment. Alongside, exhibit from I-crops
International highlighted the eco-friendly vehicles run by electricity. These e-vehicles
provide 55% to 99% improvement in CO2
emissions and produce less harmful impacts to the environment while
contributing to the recycling-based societies.
The message ‘Earth Day Every day, Everywhere, for
Everyone’ was also delivered loud and clear through the art creation of
Mr. Jojo Cruz, who made miniature robots out of recycled materials. Cruz’s
artwork introduced and promoted the concept of the 3Rs (reduce, reuse and
recycle). It also encouraged onlookers to learn innovative ways to live a
green, safe and healthy lifestyle.
Over 200
people came to see the opening of the exhibit. Gracing the event were Secretary
General for Environmental Development Educational Network Medel Pulanco, Marilao
Councilor Irma Celones, DepEd Supervisor for Special Events Division Head Catalino
Inovero as well as Ginoo and Binibining Guiguinto, Mr. Michael Sicat and Ms. Genesis
Baul.
Earth Day celebration is an activity
of SM Supermalls held every year to
highlight green issues with activities that demonstrate support for the
environment protection. Likewise, it also promotes comprehensive approaches to
limit ecological footprint. These include the monthly trash to cash, recycling
market and SM eco bag campaign
among others.
