In the wake of damages brought about the recent 7.2
earthquake and the super-typhoon Yolanda, SM Group pledged P100M as a calamity fund for
areas devastated by the earthquake and the typhoon, particularly in, Tacloban,
Ormoc, Samar, Bohol, Cebu, Iloilo, Capiz and Bicol.
The fund
will be for rebuilding homes, community centers, schools, and churches, as well
as for immediate relief through food and supplies.
SM Foundation
is also taking the lead in the relief operation effort with the nationwide
reach of SM Cares of the mall group, SM Savemore, and BDO Foundation. Recently,
SM Group of Companies, through SM Foundation, has sent out thousands of kalinga
relief packages consisting of bottles of mineral water, rice, ready-to-eat ulam packs and instant noodles. These
were given to the affected areas and communities of the recent calamities.
SM’s disaster
relief facility, Operation Tulong Express, is also accepting donations of
relief goods in SM Malls nationwide, and its accounts in
BDO and Chinabank for cash donations.
